Senior Advisor  – International Taxation

Rajesh Kumar Jha, a former civil servant, who retired at the most senior field position as Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Government of India, is a seasoned taxation professional with over 32 years of experience in the Indian Income Tax Department. He holds an LL.M. in Taxation from the University of Washington, USA, complementing his extensive administrative and practical experience with specialised academic exposure to international and cross-border taxation.

During his tenure in the Indian Revenue Service, he has served in various capacities across six regions of India handling multifarious matters including complex corporate investigations, search-and-seizure operations, and International Taxation. From 2015 onwards, Mr. Jha served in Bengaluru, one of India’s principal centres for multinational technology and global service companies. During his tenure, he established and headed Bengaluru’s Advance Pricing Agreement (APA) charge for three years from its inception.

His professional expertise encompasses International Taxation matters such as Advance Pricing Agreements, Transfer Pricing, Tax Treaties, Cross-Border Withholding Tax, Permanent Establishment and Business Connection issues. His experience also includes practical understanding of Mutual Agreement Procedure (MAP), Safe Harbour provisions and the taxation of multinational group structures, shared-service centres and technology captive units. This combination of senior-level administrative experience, specialised exposure to Advance Pricing Agreements and International Taxation, and academic training in taxation in the United States enables him to provide strategic insight into complex tax, regulatory and cross-border business matters.
